During your walkthrough (move-in date) with your realtor, your realtor will photograph and record all utility meters (gas, electricity, water, oil) and share them with you. Use the initial meter readings to register with utility providers in your area. Utilities run continuously, and the payment responsibility shifts to you once these readings are registered. Sign up for services using these readings as your billing cycle’s starting point.

Additional Assistance from Realtors

Your realtor can provide more detailed information specific to your property, advising on relevant utility companies based on your location and property type.

Payment Responsibilities and IBAN Account

Utility payments become your responsibility from the moment you share the meter readings. An IBAN (International Bank Account Number) account is essential for paying utilities and rent in Germany, simplifying regular payments.

Setting up utilities is an integral part of making your new house in Germany feel like a home. With accurate meter readings, consultation with your realtor, and using this guide, you can ensure a smooth transition. An IBAN account is key for efficiently managing monthly expenses.
